Adelante’s architecture internship abroad or interior design internship will allow you to travel and gain valuable career experience. Internships are offered in Europe (Spain) and Latin America (Uruguay, Ecuador, and Chile) throughout the year.
Architecture internship candidates can work on commercial architecture projects (such as Clubhouses, Hotels, and also residential clients) or with corporate clients, where a company hires the architecture firm to design their office and meeting spaces.
Other architecture & design firms specialize in renovating existing buildings – many projects include hotels trying to keep historical standing or a certain number of star ratings, still others are building facades that the city does not want to be altered, but updated.
What to Expect as an Architecture / Design Intern Abroad
Adelante’s Architecture and interior design interns work in busy, professional settings. They are expected to know their way around CADD software at a minimum. Candidates will rarely shadow a partner in the firm. Instead, they will work under a Senior Manager or Project Manager or a Senior Architect/Interior Designer.
The architecture field is a little more strict in its requirements than most. Most of the time, firms are too occupied to go over more basic details. Past architecture & design internships have required students in the field to speak an intermediate level of Spanish.

I had a wonderful experience abroad in Chile. My Spanish most definitely improved, or I should say my Chilean Spanish since they use so much slang. I loved our teacher so much, in fact, I am still in contact with her. My internship placement also was great, I was an assistant to a professor who had other architecture projects as well. Very nice, welcoming, patient, and open-minded. Overall an awesome experience, I met some wonderful people, learned a little bit about a new culture, improved my Spanish, and my architecture.
